The Atlanta Hawks Basketball Academy recently hosted their 2025 Community Court Tour at Bessie Branham Recreation Center in the Kirkwood community.
Over 100 kids took part in basketball clinics which focused on fundamental skill development, fitness, and teamwork, led by the Hawks Basketball Academy staff. Participants received custom Hawks jerseys, basketballs, and branded gear, enhancing the excitement of the experience and leaving them with lasting memories.
Former Hawks player and Atlanta native Dion Glover was on site to share words of wisdom with the students. “Guys gave back to me when I was younger, and I just think that’s what we owe to the younger generation, is to continue to give back when we reach the same level, try to guide them and help them and show them that we care. I remember in growing up in the rec center and Dominique Wilkins came out and just talked to us, and it meant the world to me, because we looked up to Dominique. So anytime you can share our story with young people, centered around the game of basketball, it always makes a difference.”
Jon Babul, VP of community impact and basketball programs also shared thoughts.
“The beauty of the Community Court Tour is that most of the kids don’t know we’re coming,” Babul said. “So when the Hawks show up and we set up the signage, and we have Hawks legends join us, it puts smiles on the kids’ faces.”
With 17 total stops planned across metro Atlanta, the tour will reach more than 1,500 youth through surprise pop-up basketball clinics and community engagement. In its fifth consecutive summer, the tour continues to connect youth with Hawks alumni and Hawks Youth Development coaches through high-energy basketball activities and character-building experiences that leave a lasting impact.
