Illinois Delegates Pushes the Clinton Presidential Button

Why do we love our country despite the challenges of its social and cultural divides throughout America’s history? The democracy of change–that’s why.
For the first time in history, the Democratic National Convention delegates have nominated the first woman as their Democratic Presidential candidate.
With a comfortable lead opposing Democratic rival, Senator Bernie Sanders–the former Secretary of State and First Lady of the United States–Hillary Clinton has won the Presidential nomination. The final count–2,382 pushing Clinton over the finish line–setting up a final showdown with Republican Presidential nominee; Donald Trump.
Although, Sanders was present for the state roll call of votes–some of his supporters walked out of the arena. There is a clear division in the party but Clinton supporters feel confident that more Sanders delegates than others will concede with their support in order to defeat Donald Trump in November.
Illinois delegates maintained a strong place on the convention floor and as party leaders–States Attorney General, Lisa Madigan and her father, Speaker of the House General Assembly; Michael Madigan announced the 98 Clinton delegates and 74 delegates for Sanders.
State Representative David E. Miller (IL-29th District) relayed the feeling that many Clinton delegates feel to move towards party unity.

“One thing you see is a lot of diversity. It’s time for us to come together and this is a great example for Americans. The real optimism here is for all of us to come together, whether we’re supporting Senator Sanders or Secretary Clinton. It’s time for us to come together and move this forward to represent at the DNC,” said Miller.
