COOK COUNTY, IL – Cook County Sheriff’s Police will conduct enhanced patrol enforcement over Independence Day weekend, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart said Thursday.
Tonight to early Friday morning, Sheriff’s officers will be conducting specialized DUI enforcement patrols in Maywood.
Sheriff’s Police and the Maywood Police Department will also be conducting a roadside safety checkpoint during that time.
The checkpoint’s aim is to emphasize roadway safety, increase seatbelt usage by motorists, promote the importance of safe travel, and help reduce the number of vehicle crashes in Cook County.
From July 4 through July 6, Sheriff’s Police officers will be on the lookout for seat belt law violators throughout Cook County.
Sheriff’s Police made five driving under the influence arrests, one drug-related arrest, and 22 for driving on a revoked or suspended license during a May 17 to May 26 enforcement period. Officers also issued 218 citations for seat belt law violations, 77 for speeding, 51 for driving without insurance, and three citations for car seats violations.
This weekend’s enforcements are funded through grants from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
