Signature Event During DST’s 50th Southern Region Conference Will Connect GA’s High School Students with More Than 50 Historically Black Colleges and Universities
As part of the historic 50th Southern Region Conference, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Southern Region invites Georgia residents to its HBCU Impact Day, a free community event designed to inspire, educate, and empower Metro Atlanta/ Georgia high school juniors and seniors as they prepare for college and future careers.
The event takes place today, Wednesday, Aug. 5 from 9 a.m.– 2 p.m. at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta (Thomas Murphy Ballroom lobby).
The 3,000 high school students from Atlanta Public Schools, Clayton County Schools, Cobb County Schools, Decatur City Schools, Dekalb County Schools, Fulton County Schools, and Home School Associations will interact with college recruiters from 50 HBCUs (e.g., Spelman College, Morehouse College, Clark Atlanta University) and five (5) HBCU presidents.
Three thousand (3,000) students, parents, educators, and community partners, HBCU Impact Day aligns with the Sorority’s longstanding commitment to educational development.
Participating HBCY represenatives include:

· Drake State Community College, Dr. Patricia Sims
· Jackson State University, Dr. Denise Jones Gregory (a member of Delta Sigma Theta)
· Tuskegee University, Dr. Mark Brown
Students, parents, schools, youth organizations, and community groups are encouraged to attend. Admission is free; however, advance registration is encouraged. Area high school students are encouraged to register online.
“We are proud to highlight HBCU Impact Day as the Southern Region’s signature community event,” said Amaris Johnson, Southern Regional Director.
At HBCU Impact Day, Georgia students will engage directly with college admissions representatives, learn about scholarships and financial aid opportunities, explore career pathways and experience the unique culture that has made HBCUs a cornerstone of higher education and leadership development for generations.
The day-long HBCU Impact Day will feature four key components:
Southern Region HBCU/PBI Career and College Fair
Students will meet representatives from colleges and universities, academic departments, student organizations, and career development programs. The fair is designed to increase awareness of higher education opportunities and strengthen pathways to college enrollment and career success.
HBCU Pep Rally Experience
Students will experience the excitement, pride, and traditions that make HBCU culture unique. The interactive pep rally atmosphere will celebrate school spirit, community, and the vibrant student life found on HBCU campuses.
Community Service Initiative
Reflecting Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s enduring commitment to public service, participants will engage in a hands-on service project benefiting local youth and families. This activity reinforces the importance of leadership through service and civic engagement.
Culminating Impact Day Celebration
The event will conclude with an uplifting celebration recognizing student achievement, encouraging academic excellence, and inspiring participants to pursue higher education and community leadership.
The event is one of several community-focused initiatives taking place during the Southern Region’s 50th Regional Conference, which will bring thousands of members from Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, and The Bahamas to Atlanta from August 6–9, 2026.
