Following Atlanta’s resounding success hosting eight of the most captivating matches of the 2026 World Cup, Atlanta City Council President Marci Collier Overstreet shared her reflections on the historic moment for the city.

“The 2026 FIFA World Cup came to Atlanta, and Atlanta delivered,” said President Overstreet.
“A city-wide team effort led by Mayor Andre Dickens, supported by the Atlanta City Council, and executed by a dedicated group of public safety officials, transportation crews, airport staff, MARTA teams, our state and federal partners, and countless city of Atlanta employees made hosting the world cup in Atlanta a seamless experience.
“Every player who stepped foot onto Atlanta stadium inspired us to rise even higher. We were all captivated by their skills, their teamwork and their good sportsmanship.
“Atlantans: you were the true stars, providing the kind of hospitality that sets us apart, showing we are a soccer city, ready and willing to host any event! You made these last few weeks unforgettable.
“Hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Atlanta was a profound honor. On behalf of the entire Atlanta City Council and from me personally, I thank everyone who made the World Cup in Atlanta unforgettable.”
About Atlanta City Council
The Atlanta City Council is the chief policy-making body for the City of Atlanta. It acts by considering and enacting all laws that govern the city.
