Bottled water will be provided to residents while in the cooling center.

City of Atlanta cooling centers are activated by the city during extreme heat advisories. When opened, the primary city-operated location is typically Selena S. Butler Park, located at 98 William Holmes Borders Senior Dr NE, Atlanta, GA 30312. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Because activation status changes depending on heat emergencies, these locations can fluctuate. Detailed, active locations can be found on the City of Atlanta Emergency Preparedness page. [1]

Additional cooling spaces often include the following resources:

  • Atlanta Fire Rescue Stations: During high heat, city fire stations frequently offer bottled water and a cool place to rest.
  • Public Facilities & Libraries: Community centers, indoor pools, and local libraries are often open during regular business hours to serve as immediate relief from the sun. [1]
  • Metro Area Locations: If you are near the city limits, bordering municipalities also operate shelters, such as Frontline Response International at 2585 Gresham Road, Atlanta. To see other regional options across the metro area, check the Capital B News Cooling Center Guide or follow updates on the Cobb County Government Facebook Page for nearby centers like Hope House.
