Morehouse College has named the Rev. Dr. Jason R. Curry ’92 as the next dean of the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel, marking a significant leadership transition at one of the institution’s most historic and influential pillars.
Dr. Curry, a Morehouse alumnus, will assume the role on June 15, 2026, succeeding founding dean the Rev. Dr. Lawrence Edward Carter Sr., who is retiring after 47 years of service.
Currently serving as dean of Fisk Memorial Chapel at Fisk University, Curry brings more than two decades of experience in higher education, ministry, and administration. At Fisk, he also holds roles as senior assistant vice president for academic affairs, assistant professor of religion, and director of religious life, and has been instrumental in advancing interfaith initiatives, enrollment strategies, and major fundraising efforts.
Morehouse President Dr. F. DuBois Bowman praised Curry as a “scholar, gifted preacher, and diligent administrator,” highlighting his ability to lead the Chapel into its next chapter while building on Carter’s legacy.
Curry’s connection to Morehouse runs deep. As a student, he answered his call to ministry while serving as a chapel assistant under Carter’s leadership. “To return to Morehouse as dean… is the honor of a lifetime,” Curry said, emphasizing his commitment to advancing the Chapel’s role at the intersection of faith, justice, and leadership.
A graduate of Morehouse, Harvard Divinity School, and Vanderbilt University, Curry has also held leadership roles in institutional research and administration at Fisk and Kentucky State University.
His appointment signals a continuation of the Chapel’s legacy as a center for spiritual formation, intellectual engagement, and social justice rooted in the vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
