Legendary singer Dionne Warwick talked with the OneHundred podcast this week, opening up about her six-decade career that includes a masterful musical marriage with the all-star production/writing team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David.

The icon even talked about how she hilariously uses social media to connect with a new generation of fans.

“I never dreamed about becoming a singer,” the 81-year-old shared. “I guess it was pre-ordained. I grew up in a singing family,” and did she ever. Warwick’s mother, Lee Warwick, managed a group comprised of siblings and relatives and her aunt, gospel singer Cissy Houston is the mother of the late great Whitney Houston.

Singing “became a profession when I got a hit,” Warwick said. The New Jersey native blasted onto the musical charts in 1962 with her hit song, “Don’t Make Me Over,” and has since charted a whopping 80 songs during her expansive career.

On the topic of social media, Warwick gave some insight to how she feels about her iconic presence on Twitter.

“It is absolutely wonderful. I am absolutely thrilled to be given the opportunity to be face to face with our babies… and I think what they’ve found in it is a grown up,” she said.

“I’m going to be asking questions, and I want answers from them,” Warwick added, stating that her mentions are open and she wants the new generation asking her questions, too. “That’s what the joy has been for me.”

And in case you didn’t know, Warwick loves to laugh –– one of her beauty secrets, she revealed.
