Aspiring Chefs Can Compete for Tuition Scholarships

High school seniors or graduates can compete to earn a tuition scholarship to one of The International Culinary Schools at The Art Institutes by entering the Institutes Best Teen Chef Competition for high school seniors or The Art Institutes Culinary Scholarship Competition for graduates.

“Today the culinary industry requires chefs with both creative passion and solid technical skills. The International Culinary Schools at The Art Institutes nurture creative inspiration as well as solid classical technique. And our culinary competitions provide aspiring chefs an opportunity to demonstrate their potential and earn a scholarship towards their education,” says Chef Jim Gallivan, academic department director of Culinary Arts for The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Atlanta.

The Art Institutes Best Teen Chef Competition, now in its fourteenth year, is an opportunity for high school seniors in the U.S. and Canada interested in pursuing a culinary career to experience the discipline of the industry.

For the second year, the Culinary Scholarship Competition offers high school graduates the opportunity to compete against their peers as well. The deadline for entry is January 24, 2013. For information, to enter or to view the competition rules, visit https://www.aicompetitions.com/culinary2013/.

Selected finalists will participate in a cook-off competition at each participating Art Institutes school on March 2, 2013, judged by professional chefs and culinary faculty. Entrants selected to participate in the cook-off competition receive recipes in advance and have an opportunity to participate in a pre-competition coaching session.

Entering the competition is easy – entrants must submit an entry/release form, a favorite recipe and an essay, as well as transcripts.

The first place winner in the high school senior competition at each participating Art Institutes school will earn a $4,000 tuition scholarship. The second-place winner in the high school senior competition at each participating Art Institutes school will earn a $1,000 scholarship.

The first-place winner in the high school graduate competition at each participating Art Institutes school will earn a $1,500 scholarship.
