Nathan Smith, the son of Lil Jon, died from an accidental drowning linked to psilocybin use, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Smith, who performed under the name DJ Young Slade, was discovered in a pond at a park in Milton, Ga on Feb. 6.
The 27-year-old had been reported missing several days earlier. Police said he had run out of his home without his phone and may have been disoriented at the time.
On Friday, the medical examiner’s office announced that Smith’s cause of death was drowning and ruled the manner of death an accident.
In describing the cause, officials used the medical phrase “in the setting of,” indicating a possible contributing factor — in this case, psilocybin, the psychoactive substance found in hallucinogenic mushrooms.
Weeks earlier, the medical examiner’s office had stated there were no signs of foul play.
Shortly after Smith’s body was discovered, Lil Jon released a statement saying he and Smith’s mother, Nicole Smith, “loved Nathan with all of our hearts and are incredibly proud of him.”
