Guy, 64, reprises her role as Whitley Gilbert in the sequel, which premiered nearly four decades after the original series debuted in 1987. Following the premiere, social media users began commenting on Guy’s appearance and how she has aged since the original show.
Some viewers wrote that Guy “did not age well AT ALL” and said she “aged like a Golden Girl,” while another said they still could not believe “Jasmine Guy aged that way.”
Other viewers pushed back against the remarks, noting that Guy is now 64 and should not be expected to look the same as she did when she first played Whitley.
“You better hope you make it to that age,” one user wrote.
Another person said Guy has “aged gracefully” and remains beautiful, while a third called aging “a BLESSING” and said Guy should be left alone.
Guy addressed the conversation in a social media post shared Monday (September 28).
“The internet can be brutal to women as we grow older,” she wrote. “It asks us to celebrate life while criticizing every sign that we’ve lived it.”
“Growing older brings change, and I won’t pretend every change is easy,” the actress continued. “But beauty, style, and joy don’t have an expiration date.”
Guy encouraged people to spend less time judging themselves and others and more time enjoying their lives, making memories and loving one another.
