The Home Depot Backyard to Launch Big Screen on the Green Presented by American Express with Back-to-Back Movie Nights

Formerly known as Summer Movie Experience, the award-winning Signature Event series returns with BackYARD Fest: ATL Homecoming Edition and Summer of ’96 Edition.

The Home Depot Backyard, as part of its Arts and Culture collection presented by The Home Depot Foundation, will debut Big Screen on the Green Presented by American Express, formerly known as the Summer Movie Experience, with two nights of outdoor movies, live entertainment and interactive experiences on Friday, September 18, and Saturday, September 19.

The Signature Event’s new name reflects its expansion beyond the summer season while continuing to deliver the outdoor movie experiences guests have come to enjoy at The Home Depot Backyard. This year’s back-to-back celebration will feature a different theme and film each evening, offering guests two distinct ways to experience HDBY events.

The series will begin Friday, September 18, from 6 to 11 p.m. with BackYARD Fest: ATL Homecoming Edition, a celebration of Atlanta culture, hometown pride and HBCU energy commemorating the 20th anniversary of the beloved film ATL. Guests are encouraged to represent their favorite HBCU or Divine Nine organization while enjoying an evening inspired by the spirit, style and legacy of Atlanta.

In addition to the screening of ATL, a live performance by the Atlanta Falcons Drumline and a special hour-long set from Atlanta producer, DJ Montay, known for contributing to the sound of Atlanta’s mid-2000s music era. Mike Starr will serve as the evening emcee, while DJ OneNate will provide music throughout the celebration.

The series will continue Saturday, September 19, from 6 to 11 p.m. with Big Screen on the Green: Summer of ’96 Edition, a family-friendly throwback to an era of colorful fashion, feel-good music and the 1996 classic Space Jam, which celebrated its 30th anniversary this year. Guests are encouraged to arrive in their 90s-inspired looks for an evening filled with nostalgic entertainment, themed games, food trucks and giveaways.

Featured activations for the events will include a roller-skating rink, a performance by Sick on Skates Crew and the Atlanta Falcons Drumline, a pop-up car display courtesy of Morehouse Motors and the Courtside ATL basketball trailer on Friday. Additional programming will feature art stations with Sway Art’s, Studio Wip, Teenz on Point, Scraplanta and the HDBY team. Guests can also enjoy giveaways from the Atlanta United, Atlanta Falcons, and Overtime Elite street teams, lawn games, inflatables, and photo opportunities. Guests ages 21 and older can visit a beer garden, presented by SweetWater Brewing throughout the evening.

During both evenings, registered American Express Card Members will have access to a dedicated entry lane by simply presenting their American Express Card upon arrival.
