Slick Rick Jackson Caught Secretly Extending A Lucrative Contract Into 2027, Despite Promises Not to Do Business with Georgia
Jackson’s Already Made Nearly a Billion in Taxpayer-Funded, No-Bid Contracts
ATLANTA — Keisha Lance Bottoms today demanded Slick Rick Jackson disclose the details of every contract his businesses currently have and have had with the state of Georgia. The billionaire health care executive was caught secretly extending a lucrative contract into 2027, despite promises that he would “unwind” his business with the state and not bid on any new state contracts. Jackson’s already made nearly a billion in taxpayer-funded, no-bid contracts.
Keisha also challenged Jackson to suspend any extension or new contract while Jackson is a candidate for governor.
“Why hasn’t Rick Jackson disclosed this information? What is he hiding? Georgians deserve transparency and have a right to know how much money Rick Jackson is making off the taxpayers,” said Keisha Lance Bottoms. “There’s no reason to trust him when he won’t provide the basic facts of how he’s made his fortune and continues to profit off Georgians all while opposing Medicaid expansion that would lower health care costs and ensure hundreds of thousands of Georgians get health care coverage.”
Bottoms called on Jackson to disclose the following information:
- How much money Jackson’s businesses have made from each contract, including payments received, and amendments;
- Which state departments or agencies those contracts are with;
- When each contract began;
- When each contract is scheduled to end, including any extensions or renewals;
- Whether you or your businesses have sought or received waivers, exemptions, or special approvals related to the contracts; and
- All bids, proposals, or applications submitted for state contracts and whether the contracts were competitively bid.
Earlier this week, Slick Rick Jackson again said Georgia does not need to expand Medicaid, stating “Well I don’t think the consequences are as bad as anybody else thinks.” Georgia is one of just 10 states that has refused to expand Medicaid, resulting in hundreds of thousands of Georgians going without health care coverage and nine rural hospital closures.
