Fulton County Commission District 4 candidate Aaron Sampson today released his vision for modernizing the Fulton County Library System. He is calling for libraries to evolve into community hubs that help residents of every age learn new skills, build careers, start businesses, and remain connected in an increasingly digital world.
This topic hits home for Aaron. Every Friday, his wife Terri volunteers by reading to children at Fulton County library.
“For our family, libraries aren’t an abstract policy issue—they’re a place where lives are changed,” Sampson said. “Every week, I watch Terri help spark a love of reading in young children. That reminds me that libraries have always been about opportunity. Today, that opportunity should extend beyond books.”
Sampson said his vision is guided by a simple principle he often shares with voters.
“We should judge a society by how it cares for the youngest and the oldest among us,” Sampson said. “Libraries can be one of the few places that truly serve every generation. Children can discover a lifelong love of learning. Seniors can take technology classes and stay socially connected. Adults can sharpen their resumes, earn new certifications, or receive coaching for their next career opportunity. It’s about so much more than books.”
Drawing on successful models from leading library systems around the country, Sampson’s vision focuses on three priorities:
Workforce Development
Sampson wants Fulton libraries to become gateways to economic opportunity by expanding resume assistance, interview coaching, workforce certifications, hiring events, and career counseling.
“Libraries can become the front door to economic mobility,” Sampson said. “Whether someone is searching for their first job, changing careers, or reentering the workforce, the library should be one of the first places they turn.”
Digital Inclusion
While Fulton libraries already provide public computers and Wi-Fi, Sampson said the county should evaluate modern services offered elsewhere, including growing its hotspot lending program, expanded digital literacy classes, and technology assistance for seniors.
“In today’s economy, internet access isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity,” Sampson said. “Students, job seekers, entrepreneurs, and seniors all need reliable access to technology. Fulton County is too large and too innovative to fall behind in this area.”
As part of that effort, Sampson called for a countywide digital access audit to identify gaps in technology services and prioritize improvements.
Entrepreneurship and Small Business Support
Sampson also proposed expanding partnerships with local universities, business accelerators, and economic development organizations to provide workshops, mentoring, and small business resources through Fulton libraries.
“Not every entrepreneur has access to attorneys, accountants, investors, or mentors,” Sampson said. “Our libraries can become the first rung on the ladder by connecting aspiring business owners with the knowledge and resources they need to succeed.”
Sampson emphasized that his proposal is about modernizing an already strong library system rather than replacing its traditional mission.
“We should never lose sight of the importance of books, literacy, and lifelong learning,” he said. “But the best library systems in America are showing us that libraries can also be engines of economic opportunity, digital access, and community connection. Fulton County should be leading that conversation.”
Sampson said the library initiative is the latest in a series of policy proposals he will release throughout the campaign as he continues meeting with residents across Commission District 4.
