Live music, eats and drinks, and a community give-back come together before students head back to the classroom

In the Atlanta metro region 1 in 5 kids rely on their school’s free and reduced-price meal program to provide the nourishment they need to learn and grow. But what happens when the kids leave school on Friday? Join us in making a positive impact to prevent weekend hunger.

As students prepare to head back to school, Funwoody Restaurants is inviting the community to celebrate the close of summer with an incredibly fun-filled night of live music, local food and beverages, and giving back to school-age students facing food insecurity.

On Saturday, August 15 from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., Funwoody will transform its outdoor courtyard into a community gathering place featuring live music from King St. Bandfood and drinks from its collection of locally owned restaurants including; Bar{n} Booze {n} Bites, Morty’s Meat Supply, Message In a Bottle, {S}table, and Good Vibes Ice Cream Shop and Soda Pop, and opportunities for attendees to support Blessings in a Backpack, a nonprofit that helps provide weekend meals for children facing food insecurity.

And to add to the fun, Dunwoody High School Softball Booster Club will host their annual Cornhole Tournament in tandem with Back To School, behind the Courtyard Stage. The Family Friendly Tourney will kick off at 5:30 p.m. while the Competitive Tourney will begin at 7:30 p.m. Registration is open to anyone and can be found here.

While the evening is designed to celebrate the end of summer, organizers hope guests will also remember that the need for food assistance doesn’t end when school begins.

“We wanted to create an event where families, friends and neighbors could come together for one last summer celebration before the onset of fall while also supporting kids in our own Atlanta-area community,” said David Abes, founder of DASH Hospitality and Funwoody Restaurants. “It’s a fun-filled night for parents with an important purpose.”
