Atlanta Daily World stands as the first Black daily publication in America. Started in 1927 by Morehouse College graduate W.A. Scott. Currently owned by Real Times Media, ADW is one of the most influential Black newspapers in the nation.

Today, we honor Juneteenth, a day that commemorates freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of justice in America.

On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued, enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas, finally learned they were free. Juneteenth marks this historic moment and serves as a powerful reminder that freedom delayed is freedom denied, and that the work of building a more just society remains unfinished.

As we commemorate Juneteenth, we also recognize that the fight for equal citizenship did not end with emancipation. Recent developments, including the Supreme Court’s decision in Louisiana v. Callais, have renewed concerns about the erosion of voting rights protections that were hard-won through generations of civil rights advocacy. At a time when access to political representation remains deeply connected to questions of equity and justice, we are reminded that democracy requires ongoing vigilance, participation, and a commitment to ensuring every community has a voice.

Juneteenth is a historical milestone, but it is also a call to listen, learn, and act. It challenges us to confront injustice wherever it exists and to strengthen our collective efforts toward meaningful change.

At Emgage Foundation, we believe that education, civic engagement, and community empowerment are essential to advancing a more inclusive democracy. We remain committed to creating opportunities for learning, fostering dialogue across communities, and equipping individuals with the tools to make their voices heard.

Today, we celebrate freedom. We honor the generations who fought for it. And we recommit ourselves to the ongoing work of building a society where justice and opportunity are accessible to all.

May this Juneteenth inspire reflection, renewed hope, and a shared commitment to the values that unite us.

Sincerely,
