The City of South Fulton recently made history with the launch of its first city anthem, a musical and visual celebration designed to showcase the pride, culture, diversity, and community spirit that define one of Georgia’s most dynamic cities.
The anthem, entitled “Hey Twin,” was written and composed by renowned Westlake HS educator, musician, and community leader Cedric V. Young and serves as a tribute to the people, neighborhoods, businesses, schools, faith communities, and public servants who make South Fulton unique.
The anthem project was the vision of Mayor Carmalitha Gumbs, who recognized the power of the viral “Hey Twin” movement and championed the creation of a lasting musical tribute that reflects the spirit and identity of South Fulton.
Accompanying the anthem is a produced music video filmed throughout the city, highlighting local landmarks, community gathering spaces, small businesses, educational institutions, public safety agencies, and residents whose stories collectively represent the heartbeat of South Fulton.
The project was inspired by the viral social media sensation known simply as “Hey Twin,” a campaign launched by the South Fulton Police Department that quickly captured the attention of residents, neighboring communities, and audiences across social media. What began as a creative community engagement initiative evolved into a powerful expression of connection, pride, and hometown spirit throughout the City of South Fulton.
Recognizing the impact of the movement, Mayor Carmalitha Gumbs envisioned an opportunity to transform that viral moment into a lasting cultural legacy. Under her leadership, the City commissioned the creation of an anthem that celebrates the people, places, and spirit of South Fulton while honoring the sense of unity and community pride inspired by the original “Hey Twin” campaign.
“‘Hey Twin’ became more than a greeting; it became a reflection of who we are as a community,” said project organizers. “This anthem captures the energy, resilience, creativity, and spirit of South Fulton while creating a soundtrack that celebrates our city and its people.”
The video features appearances from community members, students, artists, educators, entrepreneurs, first responders, civic leaders, and local organizations. Among those featured are members of the nationally recognized Westlake Mighty Marching Lions, proudly recognized as the 2025 Red Lobster ESPN Band of the Year, whose performance helps bring the anthem’s message of excellence and community pride to life.
The City of South Fulton Anthem Project represents a collaborative effort to highlight the city’s continued growth, rich cultural heritage, and commitment to fostering meaningful connections among residents. Through music and storytelling, the initiative seeks to strengthen civic pride while sharing the city’s unique identity with audiences across the region and beyond.
The anthem has taken off going viral and giving residents a sense of community pride in the the 9-year-old city. The song has challenged other South Fulton schools and community organizations to remix the video and share the beautiful qualities of the city. This is what this anthem brings at the intersection of Connection, Community, and Culture.
