Independent candidate for U.S. Senate highlights opportunity to “Light the Way Forward” in Advance of Tuesday’s Republican Primary Runoff

Georgia Independent candidate for U.S. Senator Al Bartell – who recently announced efforts to advance an “advise and consent” resolution on political violence to the U.S. Senate – released the following statement ahead of Tuesday June 16th’s Republican Primary runoff election for U.S. Senate between Republican candidates Mike Collins and Derek Dooley:

“Since the 1950’s, one of Georgia’s greatest human tragedies lies at the bottom of Lake Lanier: the remnants of the town of Oscarville, from which Black residents were killed, driven out and displaced in 1912.

“Yet, it is as if such a travesty of human rights never happened. Practices of cultural bias in zoning are openly woven into county authority decision-making regarding Lake Lanier that, to this day, stand unaddressed.

“As an Independent Candidate for United States Senator in Georgia, and as a conflict management leader, I am calling for leaders across all party lines, across all party divides, to request a hearing. The hearing would bring forth existing, long-standing data from Georgia’s Lake Lanier stakeholders, to revoke county authority on Lake Lanier private home rentals to the public.

“A hearing on Lake Lanier is one proactive step to keep cultural bias from the past out of Georgia’s bright future.”
