On Monday, May 18, the day before Election Day, leaders from the Asian American Advocacy Fund and Georgia Youth Justice Coalition will hold a press conference to highlight the stakes of Tuesday’s Georgia Supreme Court election for Georgians across the state.
The press conference comes amid renewed concerns about redistricting, voting rights, and the power of state courts following the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent Louisiana v. Callais decision. Speakers will connect the Georgia Supreme Court election to the future of fair representation, access to justice, youth power, and democracy in Georgia.
Ashna Khanna, Executive Director of the Asian American Advocacy Fund, will discuss how decisions made by the Georgia Supreme Court can directly impact Asian American communities, including issues related to representation, reproductive freedom, voting rights, and civic participation. Khayla Doby, Deputy Executive Director of Georgia Youth Justice Coalition, who is returning from a rally in Montgomery, will offer a Southern movement perspective on why Georgia’s fight over representation is part of a broader regional fight to protect voting rights and community power.
