Atlanta Daily World stands as the first Black daily publication in America. Started in 1927 by Morehouse College graduate W.A. Scott. Currently owned by Real Times Media, ADW is one of the most influential Black newspapers in the nation.

On Monday morning, local American Red Cross volunteers from the Greater Atlanta Chapter responded to a fire at Netherley Park Apartments on Buffington Road in Union City.

Red Cross volunteers as part of the Disaster Action Team were on the scene to help coordinate emergency aid to those affected. So far, they have assisted nine families, totaling 44 people.

The Red Cross provided comfort kits, direct client assistance and recovery planning to the families to meet their disaster-caused needs.

Every eight minutes, the Red Cross responds to a disaster in the community. That’s why the American Red Cross launched the nationwide Home Fire Campaign in 2014 which aims to reduce home fire deaths and injuries by 25 percent.

HOME FIRE CAMPAIGN SAVE LIVES

Since October 2014, the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign with community partners has saved 2,615 lives – including 255 in Georgia – by educating families about fire safety, helping them create escape plans, and installing free smoke alarms in high-risk areas across the country.
