On Wednesday, August 20, Aaron Johnson stood before the media with his family and supporters to officially declare he is a qualified candidate for the District 2 Council seat in the City of South Fulton.
After a half-hour meeting with the city clerk to sign paperwork, Johnson emerged from City Hall and held a brief news conference after officially qualifying. Johnson, did not mince words on his mission to end the negativity and scandals that have plagued the City of South Fulton as of late.
From investigations of the mayor’s unlawful expenses for foreign trips to Paris, Columbia and Africa, to the current investigation of the city’s police chief, Johnson says he is the right person at the right time to right the ship of South Fulton. He also has earned the influential endorsement of former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin.
“Today we being moving South Fulton forward,” said Johnson. “We will strengthen ethics, promote smart growth and keep our citizens safe by supporting our firefighters and our police department.
“District 2 deserves leadership that is responsive, open and dedicated to progress. I’m ready to continue the work I’ve done for the last two decades here. We need to focus on the good things. As it pertains to the internal city council matters, I believe if we put the citizens first, the other (negative) stuff will go away.”
The seat is being vacated by Carmalitha Gumbs, who is seeking the mayor’s office in what is Georgia’s seventh-largest city and one of the fastest-growing in metro area.
