When Bishop Eddie Long sported a shocking and dramatic weight loss a few months ago, the pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in suburban Atlanta claimed it was due to the fact that he had discarded the “slave” food in favor of an exclusive plant-based diet.
Long’s gaunt, sickly look immediately aroused suspicion inside and outside the Lithonia, Ga.-based church. There simply seemed to be more going on with his body and health than he divulged to his followers.
According to the Christian Post, Long has been hospitalized in Atlanta due to stage 4 cancer.
After the news began to circulate about his health, Long released a statement through his church denying that he is in the hospital.
“I am recovering from a health challenge that I trust God to deliver me from. It is unrelated to the eating-for-life diet, consisting of mostly raw vegetables, that I am continuing as part of a holistic approach to good health. At this time, my family and I are requesting that you respect our privacy. I truly appreciate your prayers and support for me, my loved ones and my beloved New Birth church family,” Long stated.
