Chicago-area filmmakers will premiere a new feature-length documentary on the 1985 Chicago Bears which highlights the Super Bowl Champions’ record-breaking rise and victory.
“‘85: The Greatest Team In Pro Football History,” premieres Tuesday, Aug. 30 at 7:30 p.m. on WTTW-TV (PBS). For the project, director and producer Scott Prestin and producer Rich Lenkov enlisted the help of legendary Chicago Bear Otis Wilson to serve as executive producer.
“I don’t really look at it like an executive producer because I just took my brothers for life, got them together, and gathered other celebrities together around the country to show the fun that we had, the hard work that we put into what we do, and the outcome,” Wilson said Saturday at the documentary’s release celebration. “I think that this is going to show that, and I’m just proud that I could pull everyone together.”

To tell the story of the championship team from a hometown perspective, the production team pulled together a cast of players, coaches, superfans, prominent Chicagoans, and members of the press, including Wilson.
“I was 25, going on 26, at that time, in the beginning of my prime and not sure how my career was going to unfold, but those guys helped make me confident, I helped make them confident,” Wilson said. “We put it all together and made it happen for each other.”
The documentary features Bears legends Mike Ditka, Mike Singletary, Jim McMahon, Dan Hampton and Steve McMichael and exclusive interviews with a who’s who of Bears fans, including President Barack Obama, Jesse Jackson, and Michael Wilbon. Wilson says the film is for the entire city of Chicago.

“When Rich came to me, there was nothing out there that told the story that the city of Chicago could get their hands on and have a keepsake,” Wilson said. “It’s not just for us but for the city because we all love these good memories. I could tell you where I was, what I was doing at that time. My teammates and the things that we did, I just want the city to see that.”
Wilson wants viewers to take away something special from the film: “The hard work, the dedication, what can happen when 53 guys come together and decide that they want to win a championship, that it could happen and have fun at it.”
