Over 450 Chicago students received school supply kits from Back 2 School Illinois Tuesday, with an additional 13,500 given to the organization’s community partners.
Back 2 School Illinois (B2SI) hosted its annual school supply distribution event at the Broadway Armory Park. Chicago students aged 6-12 attended the event, participating in a series of activities ranging from physical fitness to interactive science and nutrition. The event is part of B2SI’s goal to distribute 30,000 of its Back 2 School Kits this year, which contain over 420,000 school supplies, to underserved students throughout Illinois. B2SI community partners YMCA of Metro Chicago, Chicago Park District, and Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago ensure that the Back 2 School Kits end up in the hands of the families that need them.
B2SI is the largest free school supply distribution program in the state. In the past two years, more than 50,000 children from low-income families received a signature Back 2 School Kit. The long-term goal is to provide the more than one million Illinois children from low-income families each year with the school supplies they need to succeed.
