Prince, undoubtedly one of the most brilliant and versatile artists of all time, has passed away at age 57.
According to speculation from CNN, FOX and TMZ and other outlets, Prince may have succumbed to complications from the flu or that it could have progressed to pneumonia at his home studio, Paisley Park, in Minneapolis — the very spot where his unbelievable genius was first unleashed on the world. It is now being reported that Prince has battled epilepsy since he was a child and that it could have been a contributing factor, but none of it has been confirmed yet.
“It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary iconic performer, Prince, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57,” his publicist Yvette Noel-Schure said in a statement. “There are no further details as to the cause of his death at this time.”
This otherworldly musical savant was born Prince Rogers Nelson on June 7, 1958, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the singer, songwriter, multiple instrumentalist, producer and actor was recognized as a musical genius, trend setter and advocate for artists’ rights. His indelible impact on pop music culture dates back to when he first surfaced in 1978 with his debut album “For You.”
ABC News confirmed that the Carver County Sheriff’s Department has launched an investigation at the singer’s Paisley Park estate in Chanhassen, Minnesota.
The news comes days after a flight Prince, 57, had to make an emergency landing on a flight from Atlanta where he had just performed and stop at Quad City International Airport in Moline, Illinois. The flight was bound for Minneapolis, but the singer was then rushed to a local hospital, where he was treated for the flu, his rep confirmed.
Prince was released three hours later.

Prince was in the middle of his celebrated and sold-out “Piano and a Microphone” tour,” but he had had to cancel two shows earlier in the month due to the flu. His last performance was Thursday night in Atlanta.
