As a Buckeye State native (Akron, Ohio) and unashamed lover of all things Ohio State, it pains me that O-State basketball alum and current Los Angeles Lakers guard D’Angelo Russell taped teammate Nick Young admitting that he cheated on pop rapper Iggy Azalea, Swaggy P’s fiancee (but maybe not for long).
Somehow that cellphone recording was leaked online, causing a sensational Internet inferno and putting the supposed upcoming marriage between Young and Iggy on the brink of irreversible disaster. Russell denies that he leaked it online, but the damage has been done and Iggy has called off the wedding indefinitely. Russell’s teammates have treated him like a contagious virus and refuse to sit or eat with him or talk to him. He is imprisoned in isolation on his own team.
The formerly proud Lakers (featuring Kobe Bryant, a Russell hero who once ratted on ex-teammate Shaquille O’Neal over his alleged womanizing) were already a paragon of dysfunction. Now they are on the verge of complete implosion.
Social media has gone crazy over the Lakers implosion and have ostracized and condemned Russell for possibly breaking up another man’s home.
