DEBBIE NORRELL
At the top of my Facebook homepage there is a question, “what’s on your mind?” There is always a lot on my mind and I like to share those thoughts.
There has been a lot of commentary about the comments T.I. made about a woman as the “leader of the free world.” The rapper/jailbird said that he just could not see a woman with that kind of power. Ok, cool; everyone has their own opinion, and with that in mind stick to your opinion.
Don’t apologize when someone calls you on it or strongly disagrees with you. If that is the way you feel, T.I., go with it. Same goes for Raven Simone who recently spoke out about how some Black people name their children; you know that whole Shanana issue. Simone said she would not hire someone with a non-traditional name like Watermelondrea. She later apologized. Why? Girl you are on “The View;” isn’t that what you are supposed to do, speak your mind. Why all of the moon-walking?
What I want to know is how many White girls do you know named Raven? I love to watch all of this crazy stuff on television, but I also love to read books and magazines. Right now I’m reading “The Book of Luke” by Luther Campbell. Yes, Too Live Crew’s Luther Campbell. So far I like it.
I heard him being interviewed on a radio talk show so I went to the book store and bought his book. I love biographies. “Strayhorn An Illustrated Life” recently appeared in my mailbox. I can’t wait to read this book. I picked up a Family Circle magazine last week during my lunch break. A book or a magazine is such a great lunch companion. I ran across an ad about incontinence, you know that frequent urge to go to the rest room. One of the tips given in the article was to stay hydrated, in other words drink more water, but limit your fluids after 6 p.m. The misconception is that drinking less water will prevent accidents. Actually, that tactic can worsen bladder problems.
Isn’t that odd, I thought exactly the opposite. Also excessive fat, particularly in the abdomen, puts pressure on the bladder, contributing to that nagging got to go feeling. Weight loss through a healthy diet and regular exercise can help about 70 percent of women achieve satisfactory bladder control, according to a Harvard University study. All of this good information was in an advertisement but I could not see that they were selling anything.
Lately, I have been drinking a lot less water so I don’t have to run to the ladies room so often.
This might have affected another health issue. My doctor’s office called me after my recent exam and, while they were happy about my health in general, they were concerned about my sugar levels. They told me to drink more water. I was shocked, blown away. I will follow their orders and drink more water and look for better results next time.
