The Transformative Power of Black Women

The Association of Black Women in Higher Education (ABWHE) will hold its biennial ABHWE conference October 14, -16, 2015 at the University of Illinois at Chicago – Student Center. The conference theme is: Excellence to Eminence: The Transformative Power of Black Women in the Academy.
The Association plans an exciting 2 days with stellar speakers from varying walks of life who will enrich your professional and educational experience.

The conference opens Thursday, October 14, with a welcome from UIC Chancellor Amiridis, immediately followed by the opening speaker, Dr. Carol Adams, (immediate past CEO of DuSable Museum and former Secretary of Human Services – IL) to be introduced by Ms. Kai EL’ Zabar, Editor of the historic Chicago Defender.
Dr. Dolores Cross–accomplished author, marathoner, ABWHE Advisory Council, and former College President of both Morris Brown College and Chicago State University, is the luncheon speaker. Dr. Mona Davenport, Chairperson, Illinois Committee on Black Concerns in Higher Education will introduce Dr. Dolores Cross. A book signing will follow her luncheon presentation. Dr. Dolores Cross will be introduced by Dr. Mona Davenport, Chairperson, Illinois Committee on Black Concerns in Higher Education.
Friday’s breakfast speaker will be Dr. Yvette Cozier (Principal Co-Investigator for the historic 20 yearr Black Women’s Health Study) on Friday, October 16th. Dr. Cozier will be introduced by Dr. Angela Henderson, Provost of Chicago State University and graduate of UIC’s Nursing doctoral program.
Chicago Chapter of ABWHE is pleased that all three of its nominees will receive recognition for their achievement as educators in the following categories:
Dr. Carol Carson-Warner – Lifetime Achievement
Dr. Barbara Henley – Outstanding Leader in Higher Education
Dr. Michelle Morrow – Outstanding Chapter Member
