Mayor Kasim Reed vows to get rid of PARKAtlanta once their contract expires in 2016. The inspiration for such a vehement declaration probably emanates from the fact that the private company threw two boots on the mayors’ private transportation vehicle while he and his security team were out at lunch recently.
Reed’s spokeswoman, Anne Torres, said that the vehicle Reed’s security detail uses to shuffle him around town, a black GMC Yukon XL Denali, was booted. But it was parked illegally.
“He was unaware his officer parked it on the sidewalk,” Torres said in an email response to media inquiries. “He is going to make sure that it never happens again.”
The vehicle’s tires had the clank put on them as it was parked on the sidewalk outside Chinese Buddha located off 10th Street in Midtown. After going into the restaurant for lunch, where the mayor was spotted grabbing a bite to eat, a patron said he saw two boots on the Denali.
Of course, the mayor was not given a ticket and the boots were removed immediately upon demand because the Denali is an official police vehicle.
