SPECIAL GUESTS—Buddy Allie with Gail and Roger Leonard, the brother of Sugar Ray Leonard.

There is a champion among us. In Pittsburgh, that is an easy statement to make––Pittsburgh is home to world class kick boxers, baseball players, football players and more. However there is one champion that fly’s under the radar, that champ is Charles “Buddy” Allie. Let’s take a look at what he has accomplished recently.
In November 2013 he was recipient of the IAAF’s (International Association of Athletics Federation) Overall Male Masters Athlete of the Year. Two males received this award for 2013: Usain Bolt and Charles “Buddy” Allie. The award was presented in Monte Carlo.
He was elected in the world masters hall of fame and in July of 2014, at that time Allie received the USA Masters Track and Field, Overall Male Athlete of the year for 2013. The awards were presented outside of Pittsburgh, but Allie had a great idea, “what if I throw a party where my friends and family can see me receive the awards.”
On Sept. 27, at the Central Northside Banquet Event Center, nearly 300 enjoyed good food, music by the House of Soul, dancing to deejay Mighty Man and the opportunity to see Allie receive his most recent awards, Bill “champions are made not born” Neal served as the emcee for the ceremony and the awards were  presented by  Kevin “Freight Train” Parker. Allie was a coach and mentor to Parker.
You may remember the Parker incident, it was 1992, and he was driving on the Parkway and was shot nine times, he immediately lost his sight due to that incident, but he became a world class runner.  It was a moving evening. Neal eloquently went over the history of the man known as “Buddy” to his friends and family, and  his  connection to Parker.
Allie is considered a senior citizen (over 65) by some, but in the world of athletes he is in the Masters class (any athlete 30-95 plus). And at 65 years of age, Allie has set three world records, earned six national titles and won 15 gold medals in 2013; now that’s a good reason to throw a party.
