City council to consider development plan near Buckhead

The Atlanta City Council is expected to look at a plan that, if approved, will put a new Walmart superstore in Buckhead. The addition would bring much needed jobs to the area, but not everyone in the community is happy about it.

If approved, the proposed development plan would put the Walmart superstore near an already existing Home Depot store in the Lindbergh area of Buckhead, not far from Piedmont Road. It would also knock down housing in the area and expand 15 acres in size.

Many in the area say they will pass on the jobs the developer is offering.

Tom Shepherd, President of the Garden Hills Civic Association, says they don’t need any more commercial space, but what they need is more residential space.

The vote by the city council is expected to be close, and the plan requires a land use change. The plan will be considered by the full council on Monday afternoon.
