Well known and multifaceted recording artist Kathleen Bertrand drops her fifth CD next week — during Black Music Month —  at her official release event on June 9 at Loews Hotel Atlanta.

Bertrand, who is also senior vice president, community and governmental affairs for the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau, will be joined by musicians Phil Davis (CD producer), Che Marshall, Tre Gilbert and Ryan Whitehead.  CDs will be available that night, and afterwards at cdbaby.com

In addition to the new CD, Bertrand appears Friday, June 3 at the Georgia Aquarium as part of the Jazz Journeys series.

This is the fifth project that Davis and Bertrand have done together.

“‘Katharsis’ takes me back to the jazz roots where I started, but it has music stylings that will appeal to everyone,” Bertrand said about her latest offering.

Break-out tunes include “Date Night,” “All the Love You Need,” and “Don’t Let it Die,” a tribute to the contributions of jazz greats.

” I co-wrote seven of the 11 tunes on the CD with either Phil Davis or Kenny Banks, and this makes the fourth project on which I’ve worked with both of these two very talented, Atlanta-based musicians,” Bertrand said.  “I’ll also be a Main Stage artist at Centennial Park for the National Black Arts Festival, Sunday July 17, at 3 p.m.

Bertrand is a native Atlantan and Spelman College graduate. Her performances have included two Olympic Games, performances before two presidents, and jazz festivals worldwide. She toured and recorded as vocalist with jazz vibraphonist Roy Ayers before settling down to raise her family.

As a songwriter, Bertrand has written the national theme song for the 100 Black Men of America, as well as several songs on her various recorded projects.

Her discography includes CDs ”All of Me,” which was the No. 1 CD in sales at Tower Records the week after it was released; ”No Regrets,” which rose to the top of charts all over Europe and was named one of the all-time Top 100 Best Sellers (1986-2004) by SoulTown (www.sci.fi) and ”Reasons for the Season,” Kathleen’s jazzy Christmas compilation.  Her inspirational ”New Standards” was released in 2006, and her most recent project, ”Katharsis,” has just been completed.
