CIAA Conference

BASEBALL: Coached by Charles Whitaker, St. Augustine’s, ranked sixth in the NCBWA D-II Atlantic Region poll, earned their second straight 30-win season, finishing 34-16 (24-4 CIAA), and second in the CIAA.

MEAC Conference

BOWLING: Maryland Eastern Shore won their second NCAA title in four years, 4-2 vs. Vanderbilt. Kristina Frahm was named championship MOP, earning an All-Tourney Team spot with teammate Maria Rodriguez.

SIAC Conference

TRACK & FIELD: Coach Ken Taylor led Albany St. to win SIAC women’s title. Coach Willie Hill led Morehouse to win the SIAC men’s title.

SWAC Conference

TENNIS: Coach Tony Dodgen led Alcorn St. a 4-2 SWAC men’s title win vs. Jackson St., while his women’s team lost the SWAC women’s title, 4-3, to the defending champs, Southern.

FRANKLY SPEAKING

MLB: “Good hitting is contagious,” said Rays Manager Joe Maddon, after their 2-1 win vs. the White Sox. “Good pitching is contagious and absolutely, defense is too. I really believe that we, offensively, feed off of our defense. … It’s a beautiful thing to watch.”
