In an Instagram post that was shocking to many of his Facebook and Instagram followers, Senator and former presidential candidate John McCain posted a photo of his son and new daughter-in-law, who is a woman of color.
It was the last thing that many expected from the conservative Republican leader and the public made sure they expressed their sentiments, good or bad. The senator’s Instagram and Facebook page were flooded with comments, many of support and congratulations but many were angry.
One commenter, Diann Daily, wrote: “No wonder McCain has crawled into bed with Obama…His son married a black girl! McCain is a RINO and a TRAITOR! Eeeewwwwwwwww…..”
And others followed suit, with many calling him a “traitor.”
The nasty comments have since been deleted and it appears activity is being monitored.
McCain’s new daughter-in-law, Renee Swift, is an Air Force Reserve captain and met Jack McCain while they were stationed in Guam, according to the Washington Post.
Recently another conservative as the subject of buzz when his daughter married a black man, a Jamaican with locked hair. Yes, that’d be House Speaker John Boehner. Much of the clamor was generated because of the son-in-law’s past arrest for marijuana possession.
Swift joined the McCain family in a sweetheart strapless with a tule bottom. She wore white, of course, and according to the Post the couple honeymooned in Africa.
