ATLANTA – Atlanta City Councilmember Michael Julian Bond will be on a tour across the City of Atlanta at recreation centers talking with children at the summer camps listed below about disaster preparedness. American Red Cross instructors will accompany Councilman Bond and lead The Pillowcase Project. The summer campers, 8 to 11 years old (3rd to 5th graders), will participate in a hands-on course on disaster preparedness. Each child will receive a Disney pillowcase to design as they learn how to make a family emergency kit from everyday items in their homes for potential weather emergencies. Students will also learn about home fires and how to create an evacuation plan.
Following the course, all children participating in The Pillowcase Project will be escorted outside and have first-hand experience with Atlanta Fire Rescue and Atlanta Police Department representatives while touring inside/out the following vehicles:
