Opening night on what is one of the largest “real” jazz summits in the nation, the Atlanta Jazz Festival, popped off with authority with the sounds of Mad Satta and the golden voice of Joanna Teters.

Thundercat stormed the main stage after the sun retreated behind the horizons and shut it down before a multitude at Piedmont Park in Midtown Atlanta.
Billed as one of the largest free jazz festival in the United States, the annual four-day Memorial Day weekend festival is a celebration of America’s original music forms, an ode to jazz legends and a showcase for up-and-coming stars all rolled into one.

The 2015 Atlanta Jazz Festival again illuminates beloved icons of this enduring genre, including the aforementioned Thundercat and Mad Satta and continues on with the likes of Otis Brown III, Derrick Hodge and Alfredo Rodriguez Trio on Saturday. On Sunday, Diane Shuur, Pharoah Sanders Quartet and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra will rule Piedmont Park in Midtown Atlanta. 11378393_852381804841325_454468248_n
