The Atlanta Dream and APS will hold a ceremony honoring the winners of the team’s Martin Luther King, Jr. “What’s Your Dream?” essay contest at Booker T. Washington High School on Wednesday evening (if the schools are not closed due to winter weather).
The contest was conducted for middle and high school students from participating APS schools, in which students submitted essays explaining their dreams for life, college and a future career, and what actions they will take to achieve those dreams. Students who placed first, second and third in the high school and middle school divisions of the contest will recite their winning essays at the ceremony and be awarded their prizes from Dream President and General Manager Angela Taylor and APS office of Career, Technological, and Agricultural Education Director Michzel Maze.
First-place winners of the contest will receive a trip for themselves, a parent/guardian and an additional guest to Washington D.C. for the Dream’s June 12 game against the Washington Mystics, plus a visit to the MLK Monument and other local attractions, in addition to an Atlanta Dream prize pack. Second-place finishers will be awarded two tickets to the Atlanta Civil Rights Museum plus an Atlanta Dream prize pack. Third-place finishers will receive two ticket vouchers to the movie “Selma” or a movie of their choice, and an Atlanta Dream prize pack.
