Pairings Announced for the 2013 SIAC Tennis Championships

The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) released its pairings for the 2013 SIAC Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championship, which will be played Thursday, April 11 through Saturday, April 14 in Atlanta.

All matches on Thursday, April 11 will be played at the McGhee Tennis Center, while all matches on Friday, April 12 through the championship round on Saturday, April 13 will take place at the tennis courts on the campus of Morehouse College.

In the men’s division, Stillman College earned the top seed after finishing the regular season 19-2, while going undefeated in conference action with an 11-0 record. The Tigers will take the court Friday morning at 9 a.m., as the team will await the winner between No. 4 Tuskegee University and No.5 Fort Valley State University, the 2012 SIAC Men’s Tennis Champions. The two teams will play Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m.

In other men’s quarterfinal round action, Morehouse College, the No. 2 seed, will face No. 7 Lane College, Thursday morning at 8 a.m. The winner of the match will play the victor between No. 3 Benedict College and No. 6 LeMoyne-Owen, who face each other Thursday morning at 11 a.m.

Stillman also dominated the women’s division during the regular season with a 13-0 record to earn the top overall seed in the tournament. The Lady Tigers, 23-1 overall, will face No. 8 Lane College, Thursday morning at 8 a.m.

Fort Valley State earned the No. 4 seed and will face the defending 2012 SIAC Tennis Champions Tuskegee University Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. The winners of each match will face each other in the conference semifinals Friday at 9 a.m.

In other women’s quarterfinals action, No. 2 seed Clark Atlanta University will face No. 7 LeMoyne-Owen College Thursday morning at 11 a.m., while No. 3 Benedict will play No. 6 Albany State University in a Thursday afternoon game at 4 p.m. The winners of both matches will face each other in the Semifinals Friday at noon.

The 2013 Men’s and Women’s Championship round will be played Saturday, April 14 at noon, preceded by the 9 a.m. consolation finals between the losing teams in each semifinal.
