A sign calling for violent retaliation against several Democratic leaders and Black TV personalities in the wake of conservative figure Charlie Kirk’s death surfaced in Antlers, Oklahoma.
According to KXII 12, the sign, which was posted near a discount store off Highway 3, featured the words “Eye for an Eye, take the family out” alongside photos of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Whoopi Goldberg, Sen. Chuck Schumer, Symone Sanders, and more. The bottom of the sign read: “Deepest Sympathies for Charlie Kirk.”
Kirk, the founder of conservative group Turning Point USA, was shot and killed on September 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University.
Kristi Mack, a resident of Antlers, said she removed and destroyed the threatening sign amid outrage on social media. Mack said she heard people from outside Antlers were planning to travel to the town to take down the sign.
“I saw a lot of people posting on Facebook that were mortified over the sign that was posted at the edge of town,” Mack said. “I was just horrified and saddened that somebody in our community would want to fight vengeance with vengeance… so I just went and took it down myself.”
Shortly after she destroyed the sign, Mack said the person who had displayed it showed up at her home.
“About 20 minutes later, the person came to my house that owned the sign and was very angry—respectful, but angry,” Mack said. “Told me that if I would pay restitution, that he would not have me thrown in jail… he had already went to the police about it.”
The Antlers resident said she paid him $100 in restitution.
“It was the best $100 I’ve ever spent,” Mack said.
