1-800-Truckwreck To Give Away Over $50,000 In Hams And Meal Boxes To Feed Atlanta-Area Families This Easter

Local law firm fights food insecurity by feeding 500 families in Atlanta

1-800-TruckWreck, powered by Witherite Law Group, is providing meals to 500 Atlanta-area families for Easter. 1-800-TruckWreck, in partnership with Kiss 104.1 and The dRream Center Church of Atlanta, will host the Easter ham giveaway on Thursday, April 17, from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. at The dRream Center Church of Atlanta, 2600 HF Shepherd Dr., Decatur, GA 30034. The first 500 families at this drive-through event will each receive one Easter meal box complete with one ham and two side dishes – for a giveaway total of $50,000. The event is free and open to the public and will feature live broadcasting from Toni & Tony of Kiss 104.1. Registration is not required, and meal boxes will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Food insecurity is rising nationwide, and more than 1.5 million Georgia residents are food insecure. In Atlanta, specifically, approximately 14% of the population is food insecure. 1-800-TruckWreck is addressing this challenge by providing hams and food boxes for local families to have a plentiful meal this Easter.

“Statistics show that food prices increased significantly after the start of the pandemic, and they’ve continued to increase slowly each year after. Because of this, some of our neighbors don’t have access to or can’t afford food, or even have to choose between groceries and other necessities like prescriptions,” said Amy Witherite, owner of Witherite Law Group and 1-800-TruckWreck. “Our goal is to not only provide relief to those who need it most, but also to provide hope during a holiday that exemplifies hope and renewal.”

Barriers to accessing food include, but are not limited to, poverty, inflation, unemployment and low wages, a lack of funding for food programs, expensive housing costs, lack of transportation, disabilities and fear of repercussions based on immigrant status. The implementation of government programs and policies, like SNAP and WIC, and community-based initiatives, like food banks/pantries and nutrition education, are among the solutions to combat food insecurity. 1-800-TruckWreck and Kiss 104.1 are using their resources to supplement such efforts to help Atlanta–area families offset the cost of Easter holiday meals.
