On most Saturdays before Easter baskets are being prepared and Sunday dinner is being prepped. This year on the Saturday before Easter the Allegheny County Democratic Committee Black Caucus (ACDC) presented a scholarship luncheon in honor of two late visionaries: C. Delores Tucker and Dorothy Height. Ms. Tucker was the first female African American Secretary of State in the nation, serving the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from 1971-1977. Height was the president of the National Council of Negro Women.
Guests enjoyed a light lunch, a special dance performance by Alycia Ford and an outstanding keynote sermon delivered by Reverend B. DeNeice Welch, pastor of Bidwell Presbyterian Church.
Alma Speed Fox was the recipient of the Dorothy I. Height Award. The award was presented by Sala Udin and accepted on her behalf by longtime friend Tim Stevens. Fox is a Civil Rights Leader who has been committed to civil rights and women’s right since her youth.
