Gilbert Arenas is not exactly the paragon of virtue or intellectual expression. The man who once brought guns to an NBA locker room over a frivolous bet has never been at his lowest when characterizing a particular alleged attribute of the WNBA. Summarized, the outcast former NBA player went on an inexplicable and indefensible rant the other day, advising that the WNBA toss out “ugly” female players and have the attractive ones don skimpy outfits in order to make the sport a more attractive television product.
The WNBA is coming out swingin’ at Arenas — saying his comments about WNBA players are “repugnant, utterly disrespectful and flat-out wrong.”
This is what Arenas had to say, via social media, that ignited the volcanic reaction from the WNBA and its supporters:
NOW this is what america was hoping for when they announced the #WNBA back in 1996… not a bunch of chicks running around looking like, cast members from #orangeisthenewblack…dont get me wrong, they have few #cutiepies but theres a whole alotta #beanpies running around hahahahahaha if #skylardiggins came out like this,I dont care if she missed every layup..imma buy season tickets and I dont even know where the f— #tulsa is hahahaha #2016newwnbaoutfitPLS and if u think this is sexist, 9 times out of 10 u the ugly one and we didnt pay to come see u play anyway #donkeykong …smdh #thiswillbeawesome #soldouteverywhere
A league spokesperson issued a statement on behalf of the WNBA and the NBA repudiating Arenas:
“WNBA players are strong, talented and determined individuals who give it their all on the court and serve as inspiring role models to millions around the world. They should be celebrated for their accomplishments, not disparaged with ignorant insults.”
WNBA players also excoriated Arenas and, along with social media, roasted the exiled NBA player until he looked like a burnt matchstick. Take a look at the epic dragging:
As a female basketball player, I am thoroughly disgusted by the comments made about the WNBA by Gilbert Arenas. #ByeGilbert
