Police in the Park event distributed supplies during 'Back to School' picnic

The Atlanta Police Department hosted their final “Police in the Park” event at Washington Park with the help of Vertical Church, CEI Hair School, Soccer in the Streets, the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta and the Boy Scouts of America Atlanta Area Council to ensure that Atlanta youth are ready for the school year.
WSB-TV and Radio One’s HOT 107.9, Praise 102.5, and MAJIC 107.5/97.5 had a live remote at the event.
“Public safety is a community effort and the Atlanta Police Department is proud to partner with local organizations to get Atlanta kids ready for the school year,” said Police Chief George Turner. “We know that civic involvement and extracurricular activities are important in helping children make positive choices and we are proud to offer information and free services at our Police in the Park event.”
At the event, the Department disributed free backpacks to the first 200 kids. Children also received free hair grooming and be able to register for the Atlanta Police Athletic League’s low-cost after-school programs at the event. City of Atlanta Parks and Recreation Department and Soccer in the Streets engaged  outdoor sporting activities and games.
Citizens were aso able to learn about free safety programs offered by the Atlanta Police Department. Additionally, citizens will be able to meet local officers and representatives from various units including the Mounted Patrol, Path Force, Motorcycle Unit, Crime Stoppers Atlanta, Crime Prevention, Team 911, as well as their public safety partner the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department.
