Former President Jimmy Carter announced that he has been diagnosed with cancer that has spread and he is beginning treatment immediately.
Carter, 90, released a statement, saying: “Recent liver surgery revealed that I have cancer that now is in other parts of my body. I will be rearranging my schedule as necessary so I can undergo treatment by physicians at Emory Healthcare.”
The hospital where he will be receiving treatment is the same hospital in Atlanta where Bobbi Kristina Brown was found face down in her suburban Atlanta bathtub in January.
The 39th US President, who presided over the Iran hostage crisis, as depicted in Ben Affleck‘s Oscar winning movie Argo, is expected to reveal more details about his condition shortly.
President Barack Obama released a statement about Carter’s diagnosis.
“Michelle and I send our best wishes to President Carter for a fast and full recovery,” he said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Rosalynn and the entire Carter family as they face this challenge with the same grace and determination that they have shown so many times before. Jimmy you’re as resilient as they come, and along with the rest of America, we are rooting for you.”
