Indiana Cop Selling 'Breathe Easy, Don't Break the Law' T-Shirts

When a large swath of the American populace rallied around the late Eric Garner, the man who was killed via a NYPD choke hold, by wearing the “I Can’t Breathe” T-shirt, including prominent athletes like LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, it was too much for one police officer in Indiana to digest.
In a move that can only be characterized as vicious, vindictive and passive agressive, Indiana cop Jason Barthel is now printing and selling T-shirts that read: “Breathe Easy, Don’t Break the Law.”
This dastardly gesture is also mocking the pain of Eric Garner and tantamount to throwing acid in Garner’s family’s emotional wounds.
Barthel then had the intestinal fortitude to tell an interviewer that he “wanted to do something that would bring people together, not tear them apart.”
Really?!?
What part of that t-shirt slogan is there any vestige of contrition for Garner’s death or reaching out to create the emotional bonds with the community that most urbanites believe police terrorize?
Barthel produced the photos after being outraged that the Notre Dame women’s basketball team donned “I Can’t Breathe” t-shirts before one of their games.
He responded by stating this:
I just designed my own version of a shirt that is absolutely necessary right now. Happy to print as many as these as people will wear. Let me know how many to get for any of your agencies!! $7.95 each for sizes up to XL and $9.95 each for 2XL – 3XL
After withstanding the intense blow-back from the public over his t-shirts, Barthel retreated from his rigid stance. According to RTV6 in South Bend (home of the University of Notre Dame), Corporal Barthel rationalized his actions in this manner:
For those upset, please understand when we use the slogan “Breathe Easy” we are referring to knowing the police are there for you! We are one people, one nation regardless of race, religion, creed or gender. We are all in this together. The police are here to protect and serve. 99.9% of us have the greater good in our hearts each time we strap on our uniforms and duty belts. We are all one people and this is by no means is a slam on Eric Garner or his family, God rest his soul. Lets all band together as AMERICANS regardless of our feelings and know we can and will be better! Thank you for your support.
Are you buying what this cop is saying or, better yet, what he is selling? What do you think of the t-shirts?
