Social media raged like an inferno when it was announced that the U.S. Patents Office cancelled the trademark rights to the name of the Washington Redskins of the National Football League, adding to the public pressure to relinquish the slanderous name.
Cyberspace went crazy with their varied — and oftentimes ridiculous and hilarious — name change offerings to assist Redskins’ owner Daniel Snyder should he cave in to the increasing pressure to scrap the team’s nickname.
This would mark the second Washington sports franchise to undergo a name change within 20 years. The Washington Wizards NBA franchise used to go by the name “Washington Bullets.”
