Hysteria and long lines greeted Dr. Bernice King as she accepted a $50,000 grant from computer titan Microsoft during the grand opening of its store at Perimeter Mall in north Atlanta.
The King Center CEO and ordained minister was handed the grant at the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, May 31. She was joined at the celebrated affair with Microsoft executive Mary Carol Alexander, Georgia Department of Labor Commissioner Mark Butler and Rep. Tom Taylor (R-Dunwoody).
“We are delighted to have been selected (for) this Microsoft software grant, and I want to thank Microsoft for supporting the King Center. Microsoft has been a great corporate champion of helping educational institutions and human rights organizations to modernize their capacity for leveraging state-of-the-art digital resources.” said the youngest child of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the legendary leader of the Civil Rights Movement.
As part of the grand opening of the Perimeter Mall Microsoft store, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis provided an exclusive performance at the northeast parking lot of Perimeter Mall. Tickets to their concert will be provided at the ribbon-cutting/check presentation ceremony that morning. Cash Money Artist Torion also appeared at the store.
The address of the Perimeter Mall store is 4400 Ashford Dunwoody Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30346.
