About 2,000 employees of the Coca-Cola Company will be moving to downtown Atlanta by next year. The company confirmed Monday it will be moving the lion’s share of its information technology (IT) workforce to an Information Technology Center of Excellence at the SunTrust Plaza Garden Offices on Peachtree Center Avenue in Atlanta.
“This center will bring together nearly 2,000 of our Atlanta-based Information Technology associates and contractors in one central location to further improve the efficiency of our operations,” said
Coca-Cola spokesman Kent Landers.
Landers added that the new lease at the SunTrust Plaza Garden Offices includes the addition of 275,868 square feet of commercial space over a 10-year period. There is no word yet on how many positions, if any, Coca Cola will be hiring for in Atlanta, but not all of the staff from Cobb County is expected to be retained.
“As far as the number of employees affected or where they are going, we’re still working through that,” Landers said.
The move will take IT workers from their office tower at Terrell Mill and Windy Hill Rds. in Cobb County. The move should be completed by mid-2014, company officials said.
A memo from three Coca-Cola IT leaders said the move is part of the ongoing enhancement and consolidation of facilities made possible by the Coca-Cola Co.’s acquisition of Coca-Cola Enterprises’ former North America operations in 2010.
“The move will combine most of our IT teams currently located at the 3200 Wildwood building and the Atlanta Office Complex (AOC) in a new office location near the AOC,” said a statement from the company.
