‘Project Runway’ Crowns First African-American Winner [VIDEO]

After 12 seasons, “Project Runway” has it’s first African-American winner!
Congrats are in order for the lovely and talented Dom Streater who beat out finalists Alexandria von Bromssen, Bradon McDonald, and Justin LeBlanc in last night’s finale to cinch the title.
The quiet 24-year-old from Philadelphia won over judges Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia, Zac Posen and guest judge Kerry Washington, with a “Retro Redux” collection that she described as a vision of the “future as it was viewed by artists and writers, pre-1960s.”
“It’s a huge deal for me. I’m poor. I mean I’m working two jobs, people,” the new winner said, revealing that before she made her TV debut she was a hostess and also took care of animals to make ends meet. Although she once couldn’t find a job in fashion, Streater continued to pursue her design dreams on the side, and that decision’s about to pay off in a major way!  As the winner she’ll take home a prize package that’s estimated at more than a half-million dollars and includes a 2014 Lexus IS 350; $150,000 cash; a chance design and sell an exclusive collection at Belk; a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine; a $100,000 fabric allowance from Tide Pods; and a $50,000 styling contract with L’Oréal Paris; and more.
