United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta is well into the sixth annual Shoebox Project. Each year, individuals and organizations throughout metro Atlanta donate thousands of shoeboxes filled with toiletries, including toothbrushes, toothpaste, lotion, deodorant, lip balm, etc., which are distributed to women and children at homeless shelters. The campaign ends May 8, 2011.
For the first time, United Way is offering a pair of roundtrip tickets on Delta Air Lines for the most creative box. To enter the contest, email shoeboxproject@unitedwayatlanta.org with a photo of your uniquely decorated shoebox(es). You may submit more than one entry. Along with your photo, please include:
Your name
Phone number and email address
The drop-off location where you delivered your shoebox
The date of your delivery
Get creative and use your imagination! Try using a theme, too: SpongeBob, springtime, Cinderella, Atlanta Hawks, American Idol, etc. are just a few ideas. If you’ve already donated boxes, feel free to submit more for the contest!
*Deadline to send in photos is Wednesday, April 20, 2011.
Creating your shoebox
· Fill a shoebox, top and bottom wrapped separately, with a combination of new, unopened items from the list of needed items posted online at unitedwayatlanta.org/shoeboxproject.
· Host a shoebox party and invite friends and neighbors to decorate and fill shoeboxes together.

After you wrap and fill your shoeboxes, drop them off at your area United Way office. If you have more than 150 shoeboxes, United Way will schedule pick-up of the boxes through FedEx as a courtesy.
